Almost 60 races in seven racing series and numerous podium finishes: W&S Motorsport reviews a successful 2022 season

Almost 60 races in seven racing series, three championship titles, eleven victories and a total of 28 podium places, more than 700 championship points after more than 2,700 race laps completed by 30 drivers on 14 race tracks: the season summary of W&S Motorsport is very impressive.

Eight Porsche cars in seven series scored numerous victories, podiums and points for W&S Motorsport in the 2022 season. The biggest successes for the team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas were winning the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring in the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) with the AVIA racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 992 and drivers Daniel Blickle, David Jahn and Tim Scheerbarth and winning the title in the AM classification of the GT4 European Series with Andrey Solukovtsev and Mikhail Loboda in their debut season. In addition, Daniel Blickle once again finished as runner-up in the NLS drivers' championship.

The successful team from Ofterdingen in Swabia competed in the NLS with four Porsche in three classes. In the GT4 European Series, there were two Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, which also participated in the ADAC GT4 Germany. At the beginning of the season, there was even a third Porsche Cayman GT4 MR in the ADAC GT4 Germany. At the endurance classic in the Green Hell, the 50th ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring as well as the 24h Qualifier held before, W&S Motorsport was represented by two Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS, and at the GTC Race by the PARAVAN Cayman GT4.

To support young drivers in obtaining the Nordschleife permit, the production-based Porsche Cayman 2.7L competed sporadically in the RCN Rundstrecken-Challenge Nürburgring. The two Porsche Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport cars made a guest start in the French GT4 series Championnat de France FFSA GT at Spa-Francorchamps.

With a total of 30 drivers in seven racing championships, W&S Motorsport completed over 2,700 race laps on 14 different tracks in Germany and Europe. In preparation, there were 28 test days on race tracks in Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands as well as before the eight NLS rounds on the Nordschleife.

The results of the test drives and the continuous development of the drivers and the team were reflected in top positions. Three class wins and four further podiums in the GT4 European Series, five class wins as well as eight further podiums were achieved in the NLS. At the finale of the ADAC GT4 Germany, the first victory in the series was achieved, in addition to two further podium finishes in the season. There were also great results for W&S Motorsport in the GTC Race with two class victories and three podium finishes.

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "We contested almost 60 races this year and were able to celebrate numerous great successes. We didn't let setbacks slow us down and always came back stronger and more motivated, which was rewarded with victories and podium finishes. The entire team continued to develop professionally and did an excellent job. Splitting up the team for the different programmes as separate crews was spot on, as everyone was able to concentrate fully on their resorts. It was like a jigsaw puzzle, with the pieces coming together more and more to form a perfect picture in the end. We can be very proud! But we certainly won't rest on our laurels, we will always push the team forward to write another chapter in our success story in 2023."

Patrick Wagner, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "Perfect and smooth pit stops, top-prepared cars and motivated, focused people in the team were an important part of the success in 2022. In addition, we kept learning with a lively exchange and meticulous data evaluation and were able to turn these insights into successes. Another key to the accomplishments was certainly the always excellent team spirit, a great working atmosphere and the cohesion of the entire crew. Thanks to everyone for a fantastic year!"

For 2023, the focus will remain on W&S Motorsport's GT4 operations in national and international racing series as well as in the NLS on the Nordschleife. Over the winter months, the team from Ofterdingen will take part in the GT Winter Series 2022/23 and continue to push the drivers' learning curves upwards at the Endless Summer test days. Furthermore, Wagner and Schellhaas want to expand the support and development of young drivers in order to enable ambitious young talents to enter the world of professional motorsport.
