AVIA W&S Motorsport takes the lead in the PETN standings in the NLS after class victory

AVIA W&S Motorsport won last Saturday with Daniel Blickle and David Jahn in the AVIA racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 992 #120 and took the lead in the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN). The driver duo finished the eighth round of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) season in eighth place overall. In the V5 class, Niclas Wiedmann, Kevin Rembert and Dirk Biermann won with the Porsche Cayman #460. In the Cup3 of the PETN, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #962 finished the four-hour race in sixth place and the sister car, the Cayman GT4 #961, crossed the finish line in tenth place.

The qualifying session on Saturday morning started in difficult damp and cold conditions in the Eifel. Undeterred, David Jahn qualified the AVIA racing Porsche #120 for second on the grid in Cup2 and in 14th place in the middle of the GT3 field, thus already laying the foundation for the successful race. Jahn and Blickle started the race as a duo, as regular driver Tim Scheerbarth was unable to compete due to health reasons.

With a brilliant start, Jahn moved up to third position in the overall field after just two corners and showed impressive duels at the front. Without any mistakes and with strong lap times, he continuously extended his lead in the class before handing over the car to Daniel Blickle. Blickle seamlessly continued this performance and for the final stint Jahn climbed back into the cockpit of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 992 #120. The top performance of the team and the drivers was finally rewarded with the class win after crossing the finish line and AVIA W&S Motorsport leads the standings of the Porsche Endurance Trophy by 12.5 points before the final round of the NLS.

Niclas Wiedmann, Kevin Rembert and Dirk Biermann in the production-based Porsche Cayman 2.7l #460 showed an equally successful race over four hours in the V5 class. Rembert went into the four-hour chase from second place in class and drove faultless fast laps. His two cockpit colleagues continued this performance, saw the chequered flag in first place and celebrated the long-awaited class victory with the team.

After the accident of the AVIA racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #960 at the last round, Marius Rauer, Daniel Bohr and Sebastian Vittel competed with the replacement car and the #962 in Cup3. The track conditions at qualifying did not make it easy for them and so the W&S Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #962 was to start in the middle of the class field. The drivers held their own excellently in the pack and made up places. Sixth place in Cup3 was the maximum after a turbulent race in the Green Hell.

The duo René Höber and Jürgen Vöhringer competed with the Vöhringer Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #961 in the Cup3 of the PETN. After also starting the race from the midfield of the Cayman GT4 class, both drivers struggled with the Code 60 and double yellow zones due to accidents on the track, but still gained positions and finished tenth in the eighth round of the NLS.

On Saturday 5 November 2022, the second NLS round will be held as the season finale as a re-scheduled event. This had to be cancelled in April due to weather conditions. In the four-hour race, W&S Motorsport will once again fight for the decisive points in the classes so that the coveted Porsche trophy from last year remains with the team.

Quotes after the race

Patrick Wagner, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "It was a really great weekend. On Friday the weather was still giving us problems and we had an accident with the Cup2 Porsche, but our team was able to repair it without any problems before the race. Despite fewer practice laps, qualifying went very well and David's start was fantastic, I've never experienced anything like it. They then drove a perfect race and more than deserved the victory. Now we are in a good position in the championship and hope to secure it in the final. We are also very happy for our three drivers in V5 that it finally worked out with the victory. They have always driven super-solidly throughout the season and have now been rewarded. Both Cayman GT4s were also strong, but Cup3 is a tough battle. Thanks to the whole team for perfect and flawless pit stops and a mega strong weekend!"

Daniel Blickle, Driver #120: "It couldn't have gone better today! After the class win, things are looking very good in the championship. David made an impressive rocket start and we both came through great, despite many incidents on the track. The team did a solid job, chose the right strategy and confirmed their strength. Now we look to seal the deal at the finale and keep the trophy with W&S Motorsport."

David Jahn, Driver #120: "Even though it was a lot more strenuous because Tim wasn't on board, it was really fun. I got a great start and was able to challenge the GT3s at the front over the first few laps. The stints were a bit longer, but the strategy was right. Daniel was also doing great and I was able to take home the win in the end. Everything went right, thanks to the crew of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas for a perfect race!"

Kevin Rembert, Driver #460: "We were able to stay with the leader from the start and manage our race. Shortly before the end of the race, we took the lead and then just wanted to bring the car to the finish in one piece. We are very happy about our long-awaited victory!"

Daniel Bohr, Driver #962: "The penultimate race of the season is over and I thought that with fewer cars in the field it would also be quieter. But there was an incredible amount going on in the race, more than before. Unfortunately, we were unlucky in qualifying and didn't get a really fast lap. From quite far back, we were able to make up a few places, but more than sixth place was not possible."

Jürgen Vöhringer, Driver #961: "It was a lot of fun, even if the result is not satisfactory in the end. The team worked great and luckily René's little accident didn't cause much damage. It was tough on the track. Now it's already into the last races of the year and we will see where we can finish then."
