Extraordinary team effort by W&S Motorsport: First Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport ready for action again after serious accident in Monza

After a black weekend at the season opener of the GT4 European Series 2023 in Monza, where W&S Motorsport had to cope with two serious accidents with heavy damages, the team is happy to announce an incredible achievement. The first of the three damaged Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport was repaired ready for racing within 72 hours thanks to an unprecedented effort by the team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas.

On Saturday afternoon, the crew of W&S Motorsport began the structured dismantling of the three damaged cars in Monza, which arrived at the company headquarters in Ofterdingen on Monday. At the same time, Patrick Wagner brought a new chassis from Meuspath after the team's participation in the 24h Qualifiers at the Nürburgring and the set-up began without delays. After three days and nights of non-stop work, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport is ready to start this weekend's season opener in the GTC Race at the Hockenheimring. As a "bonus task" to the assembly, the GT4 bolide has also been equipped with a specially adapted system from PARAVAN GmbH, which enables paraplegic driver Tim Horrell to operate the Porsche. Horrell can drive the Porsche Cayman GT4 by hand using a throttle ring installed on the steering wheel and a brake lever. His cockpit colleague Henry Schwalbach can control the car as usual via the pedals.

W&S Motorsport Team Principal Daniel Schellhaas says proudly: "The shock and pain at the weekend sat deep, but we didn't let it demotivate us. On the contrary, everyone said: 'Now more than ever!' Every available helping hand pitched in immediately and everyone did a job far above and beyond the normal level. I cannot stress enough how grateful we are for this and how proud we are to have such a reliable, passionate and hard-working crew as a team. It was important for us to keep our drivers in competition and not have to use replacement cars."

"Fortunately, we also have our own stock of parts to be prepared for emergencies. Although no one had three emergencies on their mind. But now nothing stands in the way of starting the GTC Race with our own car and we are looking forward to the inclusive project with PARAVAN GmbH, Tim and Henry. Many thanks to our whole team for this mega performance and the motivating words of all friends, supporters and competitors of W&S Motorsport! Special get-well wishes go to our driver Charles Dawson! We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he will be fit again soon to continue the season with us."

"After the accidents last Thursday, we sent the replacement chassis from Ofterdingen to Italy as quickly as possible before I left for the Nürburgring with my squad," W&S Motorsport team boss Patrick Wagner looks back. He continues: "The fact that the replacement car was ready for technical scrutineering in the early hours of the next morning was the crew's first masterstroke. We were shocked on Saturday when we had to watch the next accident on the livestream. Of course, the biggest concern was how the driver was doing. When the all-clear was given, we quickly realised that there were big tasks ahead in the next few days."

"But it was fantastic how immediately everyone who knew how to screw promised to help and lent a hand. Fortunately, we got a chassis from Manthey that we could take with us to the company headquarters. From the moment we arrived, we worked non-stop in several shifts on all three cars. The main focus, however, was to get the race car ready for the GTC Race, and it is now ready for the Hockenheimring. I can only agree with Daniel's words: Thanks to all of you, you are absolutely the most awesome team you could ever wish for and you can rely on 100%!"
