Successful 2022 GTC Race season with W&S Motorsport was valuable experience for Luca Arnold

W&S Motorsport competed with Luca Arnold in the 2022 GTC Race. Together with the team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas, the young driver was able to celebrate numerous podium successes and gain a lot of valuable experience for his further racing career.

The Gran Turismo Cup was held as a GTC Race as part of the five ADAC Racing Weekends 2022. Each weekend features two 30-minute GT Sprint races and one 60-minute GT60 Powered by Pirelli race. Two drivers can share the work at the wheel or a single entrant can go on the hunt for points. The starting grid includes GT3 and GT4 cars with professional and amateur drivers. To actively promote young talent, the series offers a free GT3 cockpit. W&S Motorsport youngster Finn Zulauf was able to secure this sponsorship in 2021.

Guest appearance in preparation for the season

Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still entered the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #87 as guest starters at the first weekend in Oschersleben in April to prepare for their upcoming season in the GT4 series. The duo took a commanding win in the GT60 race in the GT4 class on Saturday. Kronberg tackled the sprint races alone, finishing fifth in the first round and celebrating victory in the GT4 class in the second event.

With the PARAVAN Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 #7, Luca Arnold only entered the competition for the second race in July at the Lausitzring, after technical problems at the season opener in Oschersleben. Here, the 19-year-old student from Aichelau was able to step onto the podium three times, in both sprint races as well as in the GT60 he clinched third place in the GT4 class.

At the Nürburgring on the last weekend in July, Arnold took the chequered flag in second place after the one-hour race, and he finished the sprint races in third and seventh positions. He continued this performance at the TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands at the end of August. Here he finished the sprint events in second and fourth place, and in the GT60 it was third in class and fifth in the overall field.

Furious finale at Hockenheim rewarded with strong results

The season finale at the Hockenheimring on the first weekend in October was marked by constant changes in the weather and confronted the team and the driver of the PARAVAN Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 #7 with the choice of tyres over and over again. Thanks to the right strategy of the W&S Motorsport crew and the strong performance of Luca Arnold at the wheel, he crossed the finish line in third place in the GT4 class and eighth in the overall field. In the sprint races, he saw the black and white chequered flag in eighth and fourth position in class. Arnold finished the GTC Race season in fourth place in the GT4 Junior class and sixth overall. W&S Motorsport finished fifth in the GT4 team championship.

Patrick Wagner, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "Luca continued to make great progress in his second year in GTC Race and in our team and proved his talent. He contested all races without an accident and was able to score numerous podium finishes. The cooperation with the team was always excellent and a lot of fun. We hope that we will be able to celebrate successes together again next year and that Luca will then be able to fight for the GT3 sponsorship spot."

Luca Arnold, driver #7: "Thanks to the reliable preparation and support of the PARAVAN Cayman by W&S Motorsport, I was always able to concentrate fully on the races. The professional support and always super atmosphere of the crew is always great and valuable for me. The competition on the track was very challenging, but also a lot of fun. I was able to learn an indescribable amount and gain a lot of experience. Thanks to Daniel Schellhaas and Patrick Wagner for the season together!"
