Two podium finishes for W&S Motorsport at the dress rehearsal for the 24h race at the Nürburgring

W&S Motorsport entered two Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS cars in the dress rehearsal for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring last weekend and took two podium places in the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers. The racing team from Swabia finished twice in third position in the Cup3 class and took a strong fifth place with the second Cayman on Saturday.

The first race on Saturday was aimed at getting the drivers in the mood for the night hours in the Green Hell and went from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, with intermittent rain providing additional excitement. The driver trio Jürgen Vöhringer, René Höber and Sébastien Carcone of the Vöhringer Cayman GT4 #250 drove a flawless race in the strongly contested class and were rewarded with an excellent third place. Sunday's race was a tougher affair overall and there were many incidents on the 25.378-kilometre circuit. Unimpressed by this, the trio once again drove consistently fast laps, crossed the finish line in third position and stepped onto the podium once again.

In the AVIA Cayman GT4 #251, the four Swiss drivers Urs and Markus Zünd, Viktor Schyrba and Benedikt Frei shared the work at the wheel. All were thrilled with the perfectly prepared car and the teamwork and showed very good performances. The Swiss crew finished Saturday's race in fifth place in the class. In the second race, they continued the good performance of the previous day after the start and were running promisingly in the Top 5 when the Cayman GT4 had an accident and the driver was able to escape unharmed.

Quotes after the race

Patrick Wagner, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "Especially for our four drivers from Switzerland, the event was very important to further familiarise themselves with the car. For all of them, it was their first time in a Cayman GT4 on the Nordschleife and I am very pleased with how they mastered this task - even though there was an accident on Sunday, unfortunately. Our trio in the Vöhringer Cayman delivered brilliantly with two podiums. I can only thank our entire crew again and again for their impeccable job over all days. Now we are looking forward to the season highlight at the Nürburgring and the toughest endurance race in the world. We are well prepared for it!"

Jürgen Vöhringer, Driver #250: "To be honest, I didn't arrive with high expectations. The first qualifying session didn't go as well as we had hoped. We stepped on the throttle one after the other and were able to work our way to the front. My two fellow drivers proved their skills, thank you for the great performance! The team also did a great job with the strategy, the pit stops and the preparation. Everything was just perfect! If we can build on this at the 24h race, it would be a dream come true for me."

Urs Zünd, Driver #251: "It was a weekend full of surprises for me. On the one hand with good lap times, which we were all able to set straight away without any experience on the Cayman 718 GT4. On the other hand, there were also incidents in the qualifying sessions and then unfortunately an accident by Victor in the second race, but luckily he remained unhurt. The big challenge twice around the clock is now coming up and I am very much looking forward to it."

The 50th ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring will be held from 26-29 May 2022 and will be an anniversary edition celebrated on a large stage. Hundreds of thousands of fans are expected to form the magnificent backdrop around the Nordschleife as more than 100 teams from all over the world travel to the Eifel. W&S Motorsport will be part of the impressive starting field with both Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS.
