Victory for AVIA W&S Motorsport at the ADAC GT4 Germany finale at the Hockenheimring

AVIA W&S Motorsport celebrated a win and another podium finish at the final race weekend of the ADAC GT4 Germany at the Hockenheimring. Finn Zulauf and Lukas Schreier finished Saturday's race in third place and claimed overall victory with the AVIA racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #31 after a thrilling drive on Sunday. Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still took positions four and five with the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #30.

Already in the practice sessions on Friday both Porsche Cayman GT4 of W&S Motorsport showed their strength on the traditional Formula 1 race track in the north of Baden-Württemberg with fast lap times. In qualifying on Saturday, the Top 10 was separated by just 0.5 seconds and Finn Zulauf put the #31 AVIA racing Cayman GT4 in seventh position on the grid. The youngster drove a strong start and was able to gain places. Equally experienced and strong, Lukas Schreier joined him in the second half and the duo climbed onto the podium in third place after an action-packed final phase.

Not so lucky in traffic during qualifying was Max Kronberg with the #30 Porsche Cayman GT4 on Saturday. He had to start the race from 18th place. Unimpressed, he managed to drive his way to the front and then handed the car over to Hendrik Still. The latter showed all his skills and crossed the finish line in fourth place just behind the sister car.

The result of the qualifying session on Sunday was the foundation for success in the race. Lukas Schreier put the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #31 on the third grid spot after a strong lap time. His team-mate Hendrik Still was on position four with the Porsche Cayman GT4 #30 right next to him on the second row of the grid. Schreier then stayed out of all the turmoil in the starting phase. After an interruption with the red flag, he then drove a super restart with 36 minutes of race time remaining. With good team tactics, he handed over the wheel to Finn Zulauf at the mandatory stop, who moved up to second place and then engaged in an impressive duel for the lead over many laps. With a cool head and a lot of skill, the great young talent overtook the leader and future champion on the penultimate lap and brought home the first victory in the ADAC GT4 Germany for AVIA W&S Motorsport. Finn Zulauf also took the win in the Junior Trophy.

Still made a brilliant start to Sunday's race from the second row and was in second place for many laps in the battle for the lead. Max Kronberg climbed into the cockpit for the second half and found himself in eighth place in the field. The man from Berlin defended himself against the competitors, made up positions and finished the final race of the year in fifth place.

In his debut season in the ADAC GT4 Germany, 18-year-old Finn Zulauf took third place in the Junior Trophy, confirming once again his strength and great talent. AVIA W&S Motorsport finish fifth in the team standings, just two points behind fourth place, after their first year in the series. The successful racing team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas from the Swabian town of Ofterdingen is already planning to take part in the highly competitive series in 2023, in order to then attack again and build on the results achieved.

Quotes after the race

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "We had a very good weekend throughout. We had a total of six Porsche in action at the Nürburgring and Hockenheimring and were able to celebrate victories. Third and fourth place on Saturday were already mega-strong results. Then on Sunday, the long-awaited first victory in the series and fifth place are a great result at the end of our first full season in the ADAC GT4 Germany. We have had the speed to win all year and finally we succeeded. Many thanks to Lukas, who stepped in at such short notice. Just like last year, his dedication earned us the podium and even the win. Finn showed a strong season and proved that he still has a great career ahead of him with his talent. Max and Hendrik were equally strong over the season and put on fantastic races. Many thanks to the drivers and to our strong team who do their job reliably and professionally every day. We feel very comfortable in the ADAC GT4 Germany and the series is certainly one of the toughest on the calendar. As this is exactly the challenge we are looking for and love, we are aiming to compete again next year."

Finn Zulauf, Driver #31: "Wow, what a weekend! Third place on Saturday already felt great and the interaction with Lukas was great. He then managed the tyres very well in the second race, which then gave me a tough duel towards the end. I was able to push hard and finally take the lead. It was a tough season with ups and downs, but we had a lot of fun and W&S Motorsport is a strong team at the highest level. I would like us to continue next season the way we finished this year. Thanks to Daniel and Patrick with their team and to Lukas for fitting in so strongly straight away."

Lukas Schreier, Driver #31: "My goal at the finale was to stay out of any trouble and save the tyres for Finn, as the Cayman got better and better towards the end of the race. Thanks to the team's excellent strategy, it worked out perfectly. Finn then closed the gap to the leader more and more and took the lead with a really strong move. So to sum up: top car, top team, top strategy and a mega-strong driver colleague. A perfect weekend all round with two refreshing and successful races!"

Max Kronberg, Driver #30: "A successful end to the season with fourth and fifth place. I was able to take over Hendrik's car in a good position, but needed a few laps to find my rhythm. But I managed to gain places again to finish the most successful weekend of the year. It also showed how well we have come together over the season. Together with the team and thanks to Hendrik's help, I was able to develop super, learn a lot and I think we can really attack next year. Thanks to the whole W&S Motorsport team for fantastic days at the race tracks, a perfectly prepared car and always the best atmosphere. With these impressions, we are now going into the winter break."
