W&S Motorsport driver Luca Arnold steps onto the podium twice in the GTC Race at the Nürburgring

Ofterdingen/Nürburg: As part of the ADAC Racing Weekend from 29 to 31 July 2022 at the Nürburgring, the three GTC Race competitions were held in the Eifel. W&S Motorsport started with the PARAVAN Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 #7 and Luca Arnold at the wheel. The fast junior driver finished two times on the podium.

On Saturday, the GT60 powered by Pirelli was scheduled as a race over one hour. Luca Arnold, who contests the season as a single starter, qualified for the seventh row of the grid and fifth place in the GT4 class. Careful and determined, he held his ground in the starting phase and gained positions. Due to an accident, the race was stopped early with the red flag and the PARAVAN Cayman GT4 #7 was classified in ninth place overall and second in the GT4 class.

Sunday was then dominated by the two GT Sprint races, each lasting 30 minutes. Arnold started the first race in the morning from pole position after a faultless qualifying. He resisted the pressure of the pursuers until half-time, but after contact at the short circuit he had to let two opponents pass and dropped back to third place. He then maintained this position until he crossed the finish line.

Luca started the second GT Sprint race at midday from the first row of the grid and took the lead after the first corner. The youngster was able to defend this lead for a long time and offered a thrilling duel with the rival. In the end, he saw the chequered flag in second place in the class. But later on disappointment set in. The race stewards subsequently handed out a penalty, as he had apparently not paid sufficient attention to the track limits, and Arnold was demoted to 14th overall and seventh in class.

The next GTC Race will be at Assen on the last weekend in August. On the demanding circuit in the Netherlands, Luca Arnold, together with W&S Motorsport, wants to build on the excellent results of this season so far in order to continue collecting points.

Quotes after the race

Patrick Wagner, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "We could already see how fast Luca is in the practice sessions, where he set promising lap times. In the races he put up a brave fight and the two podiums are well deserved. Our team did a perfect job as usual and we are happy about the result of the weekend. Why we got a penalty after the podium ceremony of the third race is not clear to me and is disappointing. Luca definitely deserved second place."

Luca Arnold, Driver #7: "W&S Motorsport once again provided me with a top-prepared car and it was already running very well in practice. There was still a bit of room for improvement in qualifying and I actually made the podium three times. Unfortunately, in the first sprint on Sunday there was a slight contact and two opponents passed me. In the second sprint race I was able to defend myself better against my rivals. I really don't understand the penalty that was given afterwards and it disappoints me a lot. So I was stripped of my second place and the third podium respectively, and with it a lot of points. All in all, I am very happy about the results and would like to thank Daniel and Patrick's team for the mega job!"
