W&S Motorsport endures the heat of the GT4 European Series on the Côte d'Azur

Ofterdingen/Le Castellet (FRA): The GT4 European Series hosted its second weekend on 4 and 5 June 2022 in the south of France at the 5.7 kilometre long Circuit Paul Ricard, where a total of 50 GT4 race cars competed in rounds 3 and 4 of the season. W&S Motorsport's two Porsche Cayman GT4 saw the chequered flag in solid positions after both races and the Am crew of the AVIA racing Cayman #37 just missed out on a podium finish in class.

The high temperatures made the competition a real challenge for man and machine, especially on Saturday. The air temperature was over 30°C and the asphalt temperature 41°C, so the cockpits became a veritable sauna. Obviously, the flat high-speed circuit did not suit the Porsche Cayman GT4 under these conditions.

Early in the first race, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #38 of Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still was damaged at the front, which affected the handling. After the driver change, Kronberg was quickly able to adjust to the changed conditions and brought the car home in 13th place in the Pro-Am classification after a challenging race. In the sister car #37, Andrey Solukovtsev and Mikhail Loboda drove a strong race and fought for a podium spot in the Am classification. In the end, the duo finished in fifth place.

In the second race on Sunday, Still and Kronberg in the #38 as well as Solukovtsev and Loboda in the #37 gained a few positions after the start and in the further course of the race. Finally, the #38 Cayman GT4 crossed the finish line in 7th place in Pro-Am after one hour of racing. The #37 crossed the finish line in 28th position and 4th in the Am class, just one second behind third position and narrowly missed another spot on the podium.

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "There were many incidents in the race on Saturday, from which we were not unaffected, and Hendrik's car was damaged early on. The weekend showed again how fierce the competition is and how close it is in the championship. In the second race, a podium finish in the Am category was within our grasp, but the speed of the Porsches on this track was obviously not there. Misano should suit us better, so I am positive that we will be up there again."

Andrey Solukovtsev, Driver #37: "It's been a few days since the first weekend, so we had to find our rhythm again. The team was very supportive and helped us to quickly regain the necessary pace. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for a podium by a hair's breadth this time, but we were able to take a lot of points with us in the fight for the Am championship, in which we are very well placed."

Max Kronberg, Driver #38: "The conditions on both days were extreme and therefore exhausting. Even though I am satisfied with my performance, the race results are disappointing. However, it seemed that more was not possible with the Cayman in Le Castellet. When we start in Italy in four weeks, the chances are certainly much better again for good results."

The third stop of the GT4 European Series is Misano in Italy from 1-3 July 2022. The 4.2 kilometre long and technically demanding circuit on the Adriatic Sea with its 16 corners again promises exciting fights for positions.
