W&S Motorsport scores points at ADAC GT4 Germany weekend in Zandvoort

Ofterdingen/Zandvoort (NED): The first half of the season came to an end with races 5 and 6 of the ADAC GT4 Germany at the 4.259 kilometre Circuit Zandvoort. W&S Motorsport started with two Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport and collected important points. On Saturday, both driver duos Kronberg/Still and Møller Madsen/Zulauf successfully completed a turbulent race in strong fourth and fifth places. On Sunday, the AVIA racing Cayman GT4 #31 had to be stopped early for safety reasons, the W&S Cayman GT4 #30 finished in eleventh place in the sprint in the dunes at the Dutch North Sea.

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #30, which is shared by the two drivers Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still this season, qualified for Saturday's race in 15th position on the starting grid in the strong field. Kronberg, as the starting driver, was gaining positions in the first half of the race when heavy rain started when the pit stop window opened. Race control first decided to call a full-course yellow phase, but then shortly afterwards interrupted the race with the red flag to allow the teams to change to rain tyres. After the restart, Still showed all his skills and worked his way close to the top three, finally passing the chequered flag in fourth place in the remaining shortened race time.

In the AVIA racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #31, Nicolaj Møller Madsen and Finn Zulauf started the first race of the weekend from ninth place. Møller Madsen also made up places and was on course for the podium when the interruption came. Zulauf then held his own remarkably against his fellow competitors on the rain-soaked track and brought the #31 AVIA racing Cayman home in fifth place behind the sister car, adding more points to his tally. The two W&S Motorsport Cayman GT4 were thus the best-placed Porsche cars in the field.

Hendrik Still in the #30 took up the race on Sunday from the second row of the grid in third place. For a long time, the leading pack was very close together and offered spectacular duels for the positions. After a short safety car period, Still handed over the car to Kronberg in fifth place. The second half of the race was no less marked by battles for positions in the field. Shortly before the end of the race Kronberg spun and was able to bring the W&S Cayman GT4 #30 across the finish line in eleventh place.

Finn Zulauf in the #31 started the race from eleventh position on the grid. He had his hands full in the midfield defending himself and attacking to the front at the same time. Møller Madsen then climbed into the cockpit of the AVIA racing Cayman GT4 shortly after the mandatory stop window opened and was able to set a promising pace. But after just two laps, a puncture forced the Dane to make another unscheduled stop. Only one lap later, he had to stop his car in the pit lane for safety reasons, as apparently an ABS sensor had been damaged by the punctured tyre and it would have been too dangerous to continue.

The second half of the season with Races 7 and 8 will start on the first weekend in August at the Nürburgring. On the legendary race track in the Eifel, W&S Motorsport will again fight for top positions.

Quotes after the race

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "We have once again proven that we can play right at the front of the field. On Saturday we were the two fastest Porsche cars and, even under the difficult conditions without the shortened race time, we might have even managed a podium. Overall, the results on Sunday don't really reflect the strong performance of the drivers and the team, who all did an excellent job again. That's why I am looking very positively at the next races at the Nürburgring, we were able to celebrate two podiums there last year!"

Max Kronberg, Driver #30: "Both races, albeit in completely different conditions, were tough but really fun. W&S Motorsport once again did a great job preparing the car for us and Hendrik drove terrific in the rain. After winning the Cayman Trophy in the Cayman GT4 in the endurance race last year, I am looking forward to competing in the Eifel again, this time not on the Nordschleife, but on the shorter circuit."

Nicolaj Møller Madsen, Driver #31: "Overall, it was a good weekend for us. Unfortunately, we were only able to achieve a good result in one race. But what is more important that we were one of the fastest cars on the track and the strongest of the Porsche cars in the field. We have made a step forward and just need a bit of luck in the next races. Finn also made a step forward and it was the first race in the rain for him which he managed great. I want to thank to the team, who gave me a fantastic car and did an amazing job. I am looking forward to the Nürburgring, where we scored two podiums together last year at our guest start and I hope we can collect more points there."
