Second win of the season and another podium finish for AVIA W&S Motorsport in the ADAC GT4 Germany

Daniel Gregor and Finn Zulauf clinched AVIA W&S Motorsport’s the second race win of the ADAC GT4 Germany 2023. In the first race at the Lausitzring, the youngsters were at the top of the podium and claimed their first overall victory of the season in the hard-fought racing series. 17-year-old Gregor placed the #75 AVIA racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport in the first qualifying session, only 0.003 seconds behind the pole setter, on the front row of the grid and was able to keep up with the front-runners after the start. After the mandatory pit stop, Finn Zulauf took the lead and defended his position against the competition. After 38 laps, he crossed the finish line first in a hotly contested race and also celebrated victory in the junior classification with his teammate Daniel Gregor.

David Jahn and Jannes Fittje started the first race in the GEDORE Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #31 from seventh on the grid, but struggled with technical problems in summer temperatures of up to 35 degrees. In the end, they finished 13th and collected championship points. Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still in the RODOPI Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #30 started from 17th place, but dropped back to 20th place due to technical problems after a collision.

Sunday began with another sense of achievement. In the second qualifying, Finn Zulauf set the fastest lap and secured the first pole position of his career. Jannes Fittje in third place and Hendrik Still in fourth rounded off the strong team result. After the start, the 19-year-old in the AVIA racing Porsche Cayman GT4 #75 was able to maintain the lead and drove masterfully at the front of the field until he was hit by an opponent and he had to retire his car in the pitlane.

Jannes Fittje and David Jahn in the GEDORE Porsche #31 secured second place in a real heat battle and were on the podium for the third time this season. Max Kronberg finished second in the Trophy classification and tenth overall with his teammate Hendrik Still in the RODOPI Porsche #30.

After the successful weekend, the team made a leap up in the team ranking and is now in first place, ten points ahead of the competition. In the driver standings, the driver duos Jahn/Fittje and Zulauf/Gregor are in good positions in the fight for the championship ranked fourth and sixth. Zulauf/Gregor are second in the junior classification, Kronberg third in the Trophy class.

The next race weekend will take place in three weeks (8 - 10 September 2023) at the Sachsenring.

Quotes after the race

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal AVIA W&S Motorsport: “It was a hot and challenging weekend in Lausitz. Finn and Daniel showed an incredibly strong performance from the start and deservedly won the race on Saturday. After starting from pole position, the two had a good chance of winning on Sunday as well. Unfortunately, an opponent took us out of the race with a completely unnecessary action, which is a shame. After the technical problems in race 1, David and Jannes deservedly managed to take second place on Sunday and keep their chances of winning the championship. Max and Hendrik were also struck by technical problems, but luckily Max was still able to get a podium place in the Trophy on Sunday. We are now at the top of the team classification again and we will do everything we can in the remaining four races to ensure that it stays that way until the end and that we win the title!”

Daniel Gregor, Driver #75: “Overall it was a strong weekend and we were always in the top 3. The first race went great! It was my first win in the racing series and a special moment. It also helped us a lot for the championship. What unfortunately didn't help us was the second race. The day started well with pole position where Finn did a super job! Unfortunately, we were later taken out of the race by a competitor. We had a lot of potential despite the success ballast and were in first place until the retirement. We will take the good experiences with us and attack again at the Sachsenring.”

Finn Zulauf, Driver #75: “We have mixed feelings after the weekend at the Lausitzring. We are very happy about our first win of the season! On Sunday we started from pole position for the first time - my first pole position ever! Daniel was already second on Saturday and we were able to show our pace. We can build on that in the next races. Unfortunately, we had a bit of bad luck in the second race and were knocked out after 15 minutes whilst running in first place. It went badly, but unfortunately that's part of motorsport. We hope that the coming weekends will go well without incident. We will continue to step on the throttle and hopefully we can build on the successes. Many thanks to the team for the great work!”
