AVIA W&S Motorsport finishes on the overall podium twice and takes three class wins at the ADAC GT4 Germany season opener

AVIA W&S Motorsport made a very successful start to the new ADAC GT4 Germany season. At Oschersleben, the racing team from Ofterdingen took second and third place in the overall standings as well as three class victories and three further podium finishes in the respective classes. The team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas is second in the team and driver standings and leads the Junior and Trophy standings.

Finn Zulauf and Josef Knopp in the AVIA racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #31 started Saturday's race from sixth position and had a strong pace. They battled to the end for a place in the top three and only just missed out on the overall podium in fourth place. They finished second in the junior classification. On Sunday, Zulauf and Knopp started the race from second on the grid and were temporarily in the lead. They battled for a long time for their first overall victory of the season and finished the race in second position. In the junior classification, they were first on the podium and collected important points for the championship. With 33 points to their name, they are currently in second place in the drivers' standings and are leading the juniors.

Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still in the sister car #30 were hit by an opponent shortly after the start on Saturday and sent into the gravel trap. Fortunately, they were able to continue the race, but had to line up at the back of the field. After an impressive comeback, they crossed the finish line in twelfth place and Kronberg took victory in the Trophy classification. In the second race, they laid the foundation for another good result with fifth place on the grid and crossed the finish line in third place overall. Kronberg thus also won the Trophy classification and leads the championship.

Tano Neumann and Alon Gabbay also drove two strong races, finishing 14th on Saturday and tenth on Sunday. Neumann finished second and third in the Trophy classification and also scored important championship points.

The second ADAC GT4 Germany race weekend will take place at the Lausitzring from 24 to 26 May.

Quotes after the race

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal AVIA W&S Motorsport: "What a start to the new season! Our race pace was very strong and we were in contention for victory. We had two cars on the overall podium and we also took three wins in the classes. It almost couldn't have gone any better! Everyone in the team worked in a very professional and focussed manner and didn't make any mistakes. Many thanks for the great commitment in all areas! We want to continue like this and defend our team title."

Tano Neumann, Driver #9: "It was our first weekend together with the team in the ADAC GT4 Germany. We have known each other for many years and I am happy that we are working together from now on. It was one of my best race weekends in my 10-year motorsport career and I want to achieve more good results with the team and my team-mate Alon."

Max Kronberg, Driver #30: "The weekend in Oschersleben was very exciting and a real rollercoaster ride. Unfortunately, qualifying on Saturday didn't go so well and then I got spun round, which dropped us to the back of the field. Nevertheless, we still managed to win the Trophy. Things went much better on Sunday with fifth place on the grid. I had to fight hard in the race, but I was able to defend third place and I am very happy about that. The car was very good and the team did a great job. Many thanks to everyone!"

Finn Zulauf, Driver #31: "We had a very good weekend! We finished the races in fourth and second place and were second and first in the Junior classification, which we are very happy about! We had a strong pace and two good qualifying sessions. We can build on that and I am really looking forward to the next races. Many thanks to the entire AVIA W&S Motorsport team for everything they do for us and the great work!"
