Championships and class victories for W&S Motorsport at the GTC Race season finale at the Nürburgring

At the GTC Race season finale at the Nürburgring, W&S Motorsport claimed another class victory and won the championships in the Trophy and Pro-Am classifications. Moritz Berrenberg in the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #32 won the GT Sprint 1 in the Trophy class ahead of his team-mate Tim Horrell (#30) and secured the title. Luca Arnold in the #99 Mercedes-AMG GT3 prevailed against the competition in the GT60 Pro-Am title race and ended his active racing career as runner-up in the GT Sprint.

Tim Horrell and his team-mate Hendrik Still (#30) took up the GT60 powered by Pirelli from second place on the grid. They were on course for a podium in the GT4 class for a long time, but a technical problem prevented another top three finish and they crossed the finish line in fifth place after 28 laps. Horrell's two GT Sprint races were also overshadowed by technical problems. While the paraplegic American finished eighth in the GT4 and second in the Trophy class in the first race, he had to stop his car prematurely in GT Sprint 2.

Moritz Berrenberg and Nico Gründel shared the cockpit of the #32 in the one-hour race on Saturday and stayed out of the duels. They were classified in seventh place. Berrenberg contested both sprint races in the #32 and won the GT Sprint 1 in the Trophy classification. In the second GT Sprint race, he had to stop his car after just a few laps due to a technical problem. Nico Gründel also contested the first sprint race alone in the #31 and finished seventh in the GT4 class. As he is a member of the GT4 support programme, he was not allowed to take part in Race 2 according to the regulations.

Luca Arnold and Marvin Dienst in the #99 started from second place in the GT60 powered by Pirelli and were able to hold their position until the chequered flag dropped. Arnold finished third in the GT60 championship with 85 points and also won the Pro classification. The title fight in the sprint classification remained exciting right up to the last minute. With his victory in GT Sprint 1, Arnold kept the decision open until the final race.

In the second sprint race, he initially dropped back to fourth place after a spin and fought his way up to second place. It was not enough for the GT Sprint title, but the 21-year-old became Semi-Pro champion and sprint runner-up. In future, he would like to cut back on active racing and concentrate on his work in the family business.

Moritz Berrenberg won the championship in the Trophy classification ahead of his team-mate Tim Horrell in second place. The US-American finished fourth in the GT60 overall standings in the GT4 class. Nico Gründel came seventh ahead of Moritz Berrenberg in eighth place. Berrenberg finished sixth in the sprint, with Horrell and Gründel sharing seventh place. In the team standings, W&S Motorsport finished the season in third place in the GT3 standings as well as in the GT4 standings.

Quotes after the race

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: “Congratulations to the champions in the various classes and to Luca for a great and successful season! We are proud to have been able to accompany him on his journey over the past few years and wish him all the best for his challenges off the racetrack. Congratulations also to Moritz on his Trophy title in his first year! Tim has also developed well and I have great respect for what he achieves in the car with the hand controls. It is a shame that he's had bad luck and hasn't been able to achieve the good results he deserves. I hope that we will continue to work together in the future and celebrate successes together.”

Tim Horrell, Driver #30: “It was a weekend full of frustration so it was hard to pick out any positives. I can’t thank my team enough for all their hard work and dedication to give me the best car as possible. Thank you as well to PARAVAN for their continued support and to my teammate and coach Hendrik. It was a pleasure to work with you! Looking forward to more successful season next year.”

Luca Arnold, Driver #99: “The season finale couldn't have been better! The self-inflicted spin into the gravel in the Michael Schumacher S cost me a lot of time and unfortunately also the championship. I was then able to close the gap again, but in the end I ran out of laps. The last few years in racing have been very instructive for me. I've learnt what really matters in professional life and in day-to-day interaction and that team spirit, fairness and networks are particularly important alongside good performance. It was an exciting time, but now my focus is entirely on our ventures and of course on the development of our safety-by-wire technology. Many thanks to the entire team for the last few years.”
