Podium for AVIA W&S Motorsport at penultimate round of NLS 2023

Tim Scheerbarth and Paul Harkema clinched another podium finish for the AVIA W&S Motorsport team with second place in class at round eight of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS). After starting from second position, the duo in the AVIA racing Porsche 992 GT3 Cup #120 edged out their rivals in the highly competitive Cup2 class of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN) to cross the finish line in seventh overall.

With grid positions two and four in the Cup3 class, Moritz Oberheim in the AVIA racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #960 and Niclas Wiedmann in the CMS Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #962 ensured a good starting position for the four-hour race in the Green Hell. After the start they occupied positions two and three and were able to keep up with the class leader. But the race was over early for the #960 of Finn Zulauf, Moritz Oberheim and Marius Rauer after an unfortunate collision with the sister car.

The #962 then had to pit for repairs and rejoined the class in ninth place. Despite an impressive recovery by the two drivers Philip Miemois and Niclas Wiedmann, eighth place in Cup3 was the maximum.

Andreas Müller and Stefan Bostandjiev competed for the first time in the Porsche Cayman 981 #450 in the V5 category to complete their Nordschleife permit. After starting from pole position in their classification, they led their class for a long time when a collision with an opponent forced them to pit to repair the damage to the vehicle. They resumed the race two laps down and finished third in class.

The season finale in the Nürburgring Endurance Series will take place on 7 October and the team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas would like to attack there once again to go in the winter break on the Nordschleife with good results.

Quotes after the race

Patrick Wagner, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "We started the weekend with the aim to drive through easily and take some victories. The day started quite promising with two second places in the PETN and a pole position in the V5 class. Andreas and Stefan did a great job and were fast. The accident of our two Cup3 cars was very unfortunate, but you can't blame the driver. It's a shame because the guys in #962 had good speed and could have done better. In the #120 Tim and Paul drove a great race! Tim was the fastest car in the field on slicks when the rain started. It was good for the whole team to have another sense of achievement and is good motivation for the season finale in two weeks."

Tim Scheerbarth, Driver #120: "Qualifying went very well for us with second place in the highly competitive Cup2 class. Paul drove the start and did well in the leading group. During my stint I was able to make up a lot of positions and the car was super on the track. W&S Motorsport found a very good setup and I was able to push every lap. This allowed us to get closer and closer to the front. Then it started to rain and we decided to stay on slicks. I was able to make up a lot of time and was within sight of the leader. We are very happy with second place and hope to top that result in a fortnight."

Marius Rauer, Driver #960: "Unfortunately, our race was over very early. Unluckily, I had a contact with my teammate driving in front of me, which I am infinitely sorry about. I couldn't see a code 60 sign and had touched him at the back, which damaged the radiator on my car and made it impossible to continue. That's motorsport. We will attack again in the next race and hope to get a good result to finish."

Philip Miemois, Driver #962: "We had very good pace and started the weekend well. Niclas put in a strong performance in qualifying and got a good grid position with fourth. We were moving up to second when we had to pit for repairs after a rear-end collision with our sister car. From then on we tried to make the best of the situation and the pace was good. But with our gap we couldn't do much more."
