Two class wins and two class podiums for W&S Motorsport at the 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers 2024
After the successful season opener in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS) 2024, W&S Motorsport also had reason to celebrate a week later at the two 4-hour races of the 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers. The CMS Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #962 of Moritz Oberheim, Lucas Daugaard and Joshua Bednarski continued its winning streak and won both races in the Cup3 class of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN). The AVIA racing Porsche 992 GT3 Cup #120 of Daniel Blickle, Tim Scheerbarth and David Jahn finished second in the Cup2 of the PETN on Saturday.
The drivers in the CMS Porsche #962 started from pole position in both races. After a flawless performance on Saturday, they led the entire race and celebrated a start-finish victory. On Sunday, the Oberheim/Daugaard/Bednarski trio also got through the Green Hell without any problems and repeated their class victory. The team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas thus won three of four races completed so far in the Cup3 of the PETN 2024.
The second race weekend of the 2024 season also got off to a promising start for the AVIA racing Porsche 992 GT3 Cup #120 with second place in the Cup2 class of the PETN. They were a little unlucky in qualifying when the session had to be cancelled around 20 minutes before the regular end due to repair work on the race track and they were unable to complete another fast lap. As a result, they had to start a race to catch up from seventh place. On Sunday, Daniel Blickle, Tim Scheerbarth and David Jahn were once again aiming to win the class after starting from second on the grid. But in a very strong field, they only just missed out on the podium in fourth place.
Jürgen Vöhringer, Stephan Brodmerkel and Hendrik Still took on the competition in the SP10 class in the Massivhaus Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #164. Due to the premature cancellation of qualifying on Saturday, they were unable to improve their lap time and had to start from tenth place. Eighth place was therefore the maximum in the first race. On Sunday, the starting position was better with second place on the grid and the Vöhringer/Brodmerkel/Still trio crossed the finish line in fifth position.
Peter Siebert and Andreas Müller completed further laps for their Nordschleife Permit in the V5 class in the Porsche Cayman 981 #450. They started from pole position in the class on Saturday and finished in third place.
Quotes after the race
Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "Three Cup3 victories and four pole positions in four races - the boys in the CMS Porsche #962 have made a great start to the season and I am very happy for Moritz, Lucas, Joshua and our partner CMS. We can keep going like this! I am delighted for Daniel, Tim and David in the AVIA racing Porsche #120 with their second place in Cup2. The competition is fiercely contested and the field at the front is very close. We have to stay focussed and attack again next time. All the drivers in our five cars at the 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers performed well and came through without any mistakes. They brought the cars to the finish without any damage and performed well. Many thanks to everyone for their good work!"
Daniel Blickle, Driver #120: "We are delighted with second place on Saturday, but fourth place on Sunday is unfortunately a bit ungrateful. It wasn't meant to be. The front runners were very close together, but the class is extremely competitive. Unfortunately, we dropped a few points, but there are still a few races to go and we will fight back."
Stephan Brodmerkel, Driver #164: "We started from second place and finished in fifth position. That's a good result, but we would have hoped for a bit more. The dress rehearsal was a success and now we have to see if we can improve our performance in the 24-hour race."
René Höber, Driver #961: "It was my first race weekend of the season and I was really looking forward to it. The start on Saturday was really intense with lots of battles for position. But we were able to prevail and finished in the top 10 both times. Everyone did a good job and performed well, so we are very satisfied."
Lucas Daugaard, Driver #962: "We had a good weekend and scored a lot of points. My stint on Sunday was better than the one on Saturday and I am pleased with the progress I made personally. We were in third place at one point, but we were able to fight our way back to first place and manage the tyres well. All the drivers did a great job and I couldn't wish for better team-mates!"
