Precision and perfection with state-of-the-art technology: W&S Motorsport and Häberle Feinmechanik have been loyal partners since the very beginning

Häberle Feinmechanik CNC-Technik GmbH in Laichingen has been manufacturing technical high-tech products for industry for over 50 years. The company has much more in common with W&S Motorsport than a mere sponsorship partnership. They have things in common such as the constant striving for speed, perfection and precision and the urge to keep improving. Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal of W&S Motorsport and the "S" in the company logo, worked for Häberle as a mechanical engineer from 2016 to 2021 and the high-tech company from Baden-Württemberg continues to support the racing team from Ofterdingen to this day.

Gerhard Häberle started in 1969 with the production of mechanical parts for aerospace. Just four years later, he expanded the production area and had ten employees. In 1976, the company Häberle entered CNC technology and produced precision parts for well-known large companies such as Bosch, Mercedes, AEG or Dornier. Rainer Häberle, who is still the managing director of the GmbH today, started his apprenticeship in 1983 and his brother Gerd also entered the industry in 1991. At the same time, the company entered the field of mechanical engineering and automation, and the development of the bevel grinding machine also started at that time.

The brothers Rainer and Gerd Häberle took over the company from their father in 2001 and two years later expanded the production and office space at the site in the Alb-Donau district. Numerous precision machines have been developed since then and thanks to the great demand for the high-quality devices, Häberle Plant 2 was opened in 2016 with 2200 square metres of assembly, storage, exhibition and office space. The number of employees had grown to over 30 in the meantime and Häberle Feinmechanik CNC-Technik GmbH could look back on 50 successful years of business in 2019. A high-quality washing line now complements the family company's portfolio alongside its machines and automation solutions. In conjunction with products from FANUC, for example, the "Häberle Robodrill" is created, which is equipped with the innovative FANUC robot. Here, the products from Häberle and FANUC complement each other perfectly in the automation of milling machines.

From the CAD computer via the cockpit to the pitwall

Daniel Schellhaas has been involved in motorsport since his youth. After successes in karting, the co-founder and managing director of W&S Motorsport GmbH quickly discovered his passion for the Nordschleife and raced in the Rundstreckenchallenge Nürburgring together with his associate Patrick Wagner. Along the way, the company Häberle accompanied them as a sponsor from the very beginning of W&S Motorsport GmbH. Until 2019, Schellhaas got behind the wheel himself and celebrated successes in endurance racing and at the legendary 24-hour race in the Green Hell.

Since 2020, he has concentrated on the administrative tasks as team boss and decides on the strategies during the races, in which W&S Motorsport starts with up to four Porsche. Patrick Wagner conscientiously takes care of the team's technical matters, such as preparing the race cars and supplying spare parts. This division of tasks, Swabian diligence, ambition and structure contributed in addition to the drivers' top sporting performances significantly to winning the Porsche Cayman Trophy 2021, the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN) Cup2 2022 in the NLS and to numerous class victories and podium finishes in various series in recent years.

Closely connected with Häberle

From the very beginning, Häberle Feinmechanik CNC-Technik GmbH gave Daniel Schellhaas the necessary freedom to develop and establish himself as a team boss in addition to his professional activities for the company. He explains: "I have to be very grateful to Häberle for allowing me to always work very flexibly since the founding of W&S Motorsport GmbH in 2016 in order to drive my own company forward together with Patrick and to spend the necessary time at the race tracks and in the office. There was also always free time for my family. It's only because of this flexibility that our race team has now reached the high level it is today and we will continue to work hard to even increase this level."

Schellhaas sees many parallels in the companies: "We are closely connected to Häberle, because we were able to take over a lot of the company structure. In addition to ambition and passion, structured, detailed and precise work is certainly enormously important to be successful in motorsport. The daily striving for more knowledge, experience and to make processes more efficient is the basis. Added to this is the comprehensive service to customers, combined with a family atmosphere."

Rainer Häberle, Managing Director of Häberle Feinmechanik CNC-Technik GmbH, says of the long-standing collaboration: "Hundredths of seconds or millimetres can make the difference. It's not much different in motorsport than in precision engineering. Racing cars and our machines are high-tech developments that demand enormous knowledge and skill. As a supplier to the automotive industry, we know that precise work is essential. Since we have always been impressed by Daniel's ambition and he has always been reliably on hand for our family business despite his duties with the up-and-coming racing team, it was a logical step for us to support him. Patrick Wagner and Daniel are steadfastly driving their company forward successfully at the highest level and we are delighted that our company logo is present on the Porsche of W&S Motorsport. We wish the team a successful season with as many wins as possible, fingers crossed!"

The Häberle Feinmechanik CNC-Technik GmbH logo will continue to be displayed on the racing cars, in the team tent, on the drivers' overalls and on the W&S Motorsport website in the 2023 season, reflecting much more than a mere sponsorship partnership. The successful racing team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas will compete in the ADAC GT4 Germany in the upcoming season as part of the legendary DTM. After winning the class title in the GT4 European Series, the racing team also wants to continue fighting for points and victories across Europe. In addition, W&S Motorsport will be looking to defend its title in the PETN with four Porsche in the Nürburgring Endurance Series.
