W&S Motorsport takes on the challenge of the "Green Hell" with three Porsche Cayman GT4 at the Nürburgring 24-hour race

Over 25 kilometers of asphalt through the Eifel forests, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of spectators, more than 130 race cars and the toughest endurance race in the world twice around the clock await W&S Motorsport. From 18 to 21 May 2023, the 51st edition of the 24-hour race will be held at the Nürburgring and the successful team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas will start with three Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS in the Cup3 class.

The work at the wheel of the Vöhringer Porsche Cayman GT4 #186 is shared by Jürgen Vöhringer, Sébastien Carcone, Axel Duffner and Max Lamesch. Vöhringer and Carcone also contest the Cup3 season in the Nürburgring Endurance Series together with W&S Motorsport. Duffner has been a driver for the team from Ofterdingen for many years and the Hotel Schöne Aussicht, which he owns, also supports W&S Motorsport with catering. Together with team boss Schellhaas, he was able to celebrate a class victory at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in 2019.

The GT4 bolide in AVIA racing design with the #187 will be driven by Heinz Dolfen, Daniel Bohr, John Lee Schambony and Andreas Gabler. The driver quartet has extensive experience on the Nordschleife. Andreas Schaflitzl, Sébastien Perrot and Guido Wirtz will compete as a trio in the green Mundum Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #190. They have also completed numerous laps of the Nürburgring's legendary Nordschleife and achieved success. Mundum AG, headed by Guido Wirtz, supports worldwide social projects and is a fintech start-up from Switzerland. The Mundum®️ token is used to support NFTs, the Shopping Metaverse, Play2Earn games, real events and social activities through Staking. This is used to support initiatives around celebrities who share the same vision of social activism.

The highlight of the year begins on Thursday with the first qualifying session at midday. In order to prepare the drivers, teams and fans for the big race at night, the night practice over 210 minutes is scheduled as the second qualifying session from 20:00. The last opportunity to secure a good starting position will be on Friday at noon during the third qualifying session. On Saturday, the field of contenders will set off on the formation lap at 15:40 and at 16:00 the starting lights will release the race twice around the clock. RTL NITRO broadcasts the entire race live on TV and all sessions can be followed with live timing, ticker and numerous onboard cameras on the 24-hour race homepage at https://www.24h-rennen.de

Quotes before the race

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "The excitement and anticipation for the 24-hour race is very high every year. It's not without reason that it's considered the toughest endurance race in the world and the weather in the Eifel in particular always ensures that the cards are reshuffled. We have three strong driver crews in our Porsche Cayman GT4 and of course we want to bring them all to the finish line on Sunday afternoon and finish on the podium. The entire team is highly motivated and perfectly prepared. We are counting the hours until the start!"

Patrick Wagner, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "All three Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS are perfectly prepared and our professional crew knows the bolides down to the last detail. Now it's a matter of getting the cars over the distance, not making any tactical mistakes and also being wide awake at night. Then we can see the checkered flag again this year and certainly do very well in the class. The great race in the Green Hell can begin!"

Axel Duffner, Driver #186: "As always, I have been counting the days until the start of the most beautiful race in the world. It is always something special to take part in it together with W&S Motorsport. This atmosphere in the paddock, the smell of barbecue and the fan build-up around the track, it's all unique. I am looking forward to getting back behind the wheel, but also to swinging the wooden spoon for the team, because we have had a great friendship for years."

Daniel Bohr, Driver #187: "Driving in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring is the dream of every racing driver, because it is unique. I am very happy to be able to take part with team W&S Motorsport this year for the twelfth time in a row. The anticipation is great, as always!"

Sebastién Perrot, Driver #190: "The magic of the Nordschleife has fascinated me for a long time. To be able to compete together with my two teammates and W&S Motorsport in the Porsche Cayman GT4 is simply super! I have already contested a few races with Patrick and Daniel's team and I know that the crew has prepared the cars superbly and is looking after us professionally. It's important that we prudently stay out of the fray in order to make it through the 24 hours. Then a podium is also possible."

Guido Wirtz, Driver #190: "I am proud to be able to drive my 22nd 24-hour race in a row on the most beautiful and best race track in the world! And I'm proud to drive for my home country - Switzerland - even though, as a native of Cologne, I also have a heart for my cathedral city. It's incredibly fascinating that every lap is different, no matter how long you've been driving here. The weather can play tricks on you at any time. The most important thing for me is to arrive with my colleagues and then celebrate the ride through the Green Hell. Winning is not in the foreground, even though we will of course try to keep up. But 24 hours are long, anything can happen. I wish all the drivers and especially the fans at the track a lot of fun!"
