Two class wins for W&S Motorsport at the season opener of the 2024 Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie

Two class wins, a second place in class and four pole positions - this is the successful result for W&S Motorsport after the first two rounds of the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS) 2024. Daniel Blickle, Tim Scheerbarth and David Jahn in the AVIA racing Porsche 992 GT3 Cup #120 celebrated their first win of the season in the Cup2 class of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN) on Saturday and temporarily led the field of 113 participants. They finished ninth overall.

On Sunday, they started from pole position in Cup2, as they had the day before, and were in a promising position. However, the race ended prematurely for them after an accident, but fortunately the driver was uninjured.

The CMS Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #962 with Moritz Oberheim, Lucas Daugaard and Joshua Bednarski at the wheel started twice from pole position in the Cup3 class of the PETN. After being hit by a competitor at the start, the trio fought their way back to finish second in class. On Sunday, they went one better and took their first Cup3 win of the season.

On Saturday, Phil Hill, Jürgen Vöhringer and Stephan Brodmerkel started from second place in SP10 in the Massivhaus Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #164 and finished sixth after a good race.

From 13 to 14 April, W&S Motorsport will be back on the Nordschleife for the two rounds of the 24h Nürburgring Qualifier, then with a total of five Porsche cars.

Quotes after the race

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "The first qualifying session on Saturday started well and we were at the front everywhere. The race also went very well for us and we won the Cup2 class. We finished second in the Cup3 class, which was more than we had hoped for after the incident at the start where we had to line up at the back. The guys did a great job of catching up. We finished in a great sixth place in the SP10, a great job! Unfortunately, our AVIA racing Porsche 992 GT3 Cup crashed on Sunday after an unfortunate situation. In the Cup3 class, the CMS Porsche won and everyone put in a great performance! The guys controlled the race and deserved to win. A great team performance, thanks to everyone and especially to our supporters and partners!"

Tim Scheerbarth, Driver AVIA W&S Motorsport #120: "We were delighted with the win on Saturday and we wanted to continue in the same vein on Sunday. Things looked very good for us again in qualifying with pole position in Cup2. I was initially able to defend the lead at the start and was in second place for a long time, within sight of the leader. On lap five, I probably wanted a bit too much and was a bit too fast at the Schwedenkreuz. Then I couldn't hold the car any longer and unfortunately crashed. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we can start again in races three and four in just a few days."

Moritz Oberheim, Driver W&S Motorsport #962: "Saturday started well with pole position. Unfortunately, there was a small incident at the start and we dropped back quite a lot. But we were able to make up for it and finish in a great second place. We built on that on Sunday and took pole position again. This time the start was better and Joshua and Lucas had good pace, so hats off to them for their performance. We had a good lead and were able to take the win. We will build on this for the next races and I am very positive."
